MITEY MITE DIVISION
The 2017 Mitey Mite Cougars Head Coach for Football is Coach Peter Coyne. Peter also serves as a Vice President on our Board of Directors, and here is a little about him...
Coaching is not a job; it’s a gift! Going through my athletic career I took a much different path than most coaches. I wasn’t the all star player, I had no one beating down my door to recruit me, so I knew early on in my career that if I wanted to be on the field, it would be from t...he sideline. I dedicated myself to coaching at a very young age. I surrounded myself with people I could learn from. I believe I can learn and grow as a coach and as a person from almost any situation. I am a student of the game and as a student I am open to listen, and learn from others and as long as I surround myself with quality individuals I truly believe my journey to become a great coach will
I started coaching football in 1998 and with the spring travel leagues I am going into my 24th season on the sideline. I am currently coaching on the varsity staff at Wooster High School, I have also coached at Hug High, Bishop Manogue, and three different minor league traveling teams along with 10 plus years of Pop Warner in the Reno/Sparks area.
I am married to my wonderful wife of 11 years and have 4 amazing healthy kids. I have worked for Alpine Roofing for the last 25 years, and in my spare time you will find me in my studio working on my art. You can find my work on FB @ Raw Originals Art.
Thank you and God Bless.
JUNIOR PEE WEE DIVISION
Head Coach: Ray Alano
Hello, my name is Ray Alano and I am happily married to my much better half, Jamie. We are blessed with three kids, Brayden, Annie, and Cooper. I believe the best way to contribute to my community is to have a positive effect on the youth within it. I started coaching with Sparks Pop War...ner in 1999. I was lucky to be involved with such an amazing Pop Warner family that stayed together until those athletes began High School. I then began coaching at Reed High School for 5 seasons. My coaching experience crosses over to many other sports. I also currently coach youth wrestling, lacrosse, and flag football. In the past, I have also coached youth basketball, baseball, and soccer. I had also spent many years as an Athletic Director and School-Age Child Care Director for the YMCA of the Sierra. My past experiences and involvement with youth has given me a lot of fond memories and many life-long friendships. When I get a break from coaching I enjoy watching sports and cheering my teams on. I Also enjoy photography and spending time with my family. I have recently taken on learning how to play the guitar and hope to one day be good at it. Lastly, I am really excited for the up coming season. We will definitely work hard, learn a ton, and have a blast doing it
The 2017 Jr Pee Wee Raiders Head Coach Brian Jackson, also serving as the SPW Equipment Manager. Here is what he can tell us about himself...
Hello my name is Coach Jackson. Welcome to Sparks Pop Warner! Being in this league and building relationships with players and parents has been truly rewarding. I am a Northern Nevada native, watching this ar...ea grow has been an amazing sight to see. The bridge between being a mentor for at risk youth and coaching youth sports is my way of serving the community in which did the same for me when I was young, playing football, growing up in this very area.
I believe every player should have a chance to showcase his/her talent. I believe in giving each player the tools to succeed on and off the field. Teaching these young players the basic fundamentals such as blocking, how to properly tackle, on-field awareness, the meaning of teamwork, respect for themselves and others, is all very important to me. Coaching is more than X's and O's, it's also about helping youth understand their potential and encouraging them to succeed in whatever they do. Football brings these aspects out, it's not how big you are, but how big you play. I am looking forward to the 2017 season in hopes to seeing another group of players grow and smile while having fun playing this game called football. I truly love and cherish my family. My hobbies such as fishing, snowboarding, music, concerts, spending time in beautiful Lake Tahoe, just to name a few, are very relaxing in the off season. I’m greatly looking forward to 2017 football and meeting this year’s team. Welcome to your Sparks Jr. Pee Wee Raiders!
